Project Description:
This Honours project investigates whether the pulse decay time of short gamma-ray bursts (SGRBs) and magnetar giant flares (MGFs) differs across energy channels observed by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor. Because MGFs can be misclassified as SGRBs due to their similar observational features, the project aims to determine whether decay time can serve as an additional classification tool independent of redshift. The student will fit the Norris function to pulse profiles and analyse results across ten energy channels spanning 10 keV to 40 MeV. For full details, please refer to the attached project proposal.
