Statistical analysis of abnormal phase shift solar quiet days in a mid-latitude region during solar cycle 24: case of Hermanus magnetic observatory

You are here

Project Description:

At low and mid latitude regions, the peak of daily solar quiet geomagnetic field variations is between 10:30 and 13:30 local time. It has been observed that some quiet days would have their peaks shifted from few minutes to few hours outside this time interval, and the cause of this peak position shift is still under investigation in the scientific community. These quiet days are called abnormal phase shift solar quiet (APSQ) days. The Hermanus magnetic observatory data are used to perform the statistical analysis of APSQ days during the solar cycle 24 in a mid latitude region.
