Relating the Star formation and Gas Kinematics in Nearby Galaxies

You are here

Project Description:

This will be a study of the star formation in nearby galaxies that are a part of the MHONGOOSE HI survey. The resolved star formation and gas kinematics will be studied in order to better understand how star formation relates to the kinematics of galaxies. This will involve studying the gas kinematics using HI data from the MHONGOOSE survey and optical IFU and longslit data of these galaxies. The star formation and other galaxies properties will be determined from optical and near-infrared data of these. These will be used to test various star formation laws and measures of the disc stability in these galaxies.
